Chain of Hope: Suicide Awareness at Riverbend High School

For Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Riverbend High School’s counseling department brought a message of hope to the football game on September 18th through Chain of Hope.

The Chain of Hope was a school-wide initiative that reminded students that they matter and that people around them care. Students wrote their own messages of encouragement and support on teal and purple paper links. They put all the links together to create one large chain.

The chain was displayed during the football game, giving students and families a chance to see all of the different messages students created.

Chain of Hope was also a way for students to think about how they can support the people around them.

Sometimes, simply checking in on someone, being there for them, or giving someone an encouraging message can make a meaningful difference.

The counseling department wanted everyone to take away that the Chain of Hope was more than something displayed at the game. It was meant to help create a supportive environment and remind everyone that they matter and have someone in their corner no matter what.

While the Chain of Hope was displayed during the game, its message went beyond the football field. It showed how students can come together to support each other and build a more positive, welcoming school community.

The finished chain represented all of the students who came together to share one important message: you matter.
